When i cold start it then drive it hangs in first gear real long even under light throttle then bangs into 2nd. usually i get off the gas before it does that n roll to the stop sign cuz after that it goes away. But also when i go WOT in 1st or i downshift into 1st it like bangs the rev limiter n doesnt go into 2nd..... btw its at about 45-50 n goes to like 6200 rpm......
if i let off the gas n then try to go it revs then drops back into gear....
otherwise the trans shifts fine if im jus cruising....
The fluid is clean and red, but i put lucas in the other day n it helped when its cold shiftin to 2nd but under WOT it still dont wanna grab 2nd. I heard its bands n clutches...where can i just get them fixed w/o rebuild??? |

The least expensive solution is to get another tranny and swap them out.
Once it grabs second gear does second hold good? If so then its probaly not clutches but your PCS solinoid. |

Sounds like a PCS (power controle solinoid) problem. You probaly should have a tranny shop take a look at it and see if they can pull any tranny codes. That would be where I would start. Call and you will find a place that should do this for free. |

Quote: The fluid is clean and red
If your clutches were going bad your fluid would not be clean and red. If your PCS was not giving the correct signal then your shift would be slopy but fluid still clean and good.
There are more codes then just P codes.
I've got 2 GTP's a 98 and an 01. I have been in my trannies 3 times to replace this part and each time the tranny resumes its normal shifting. My SES light would never set because to set an SES light your PCS has to fail X amount of times in a given time period.
Read up a litte on the tranny (P) codes and what it takes to set the SES light.

If your not comfortable in diagnosing your tranny then you should have it looked at by a qualified profesional. I'll tell you right now that even having me install a tranny would cost you more then having a shop replace your PCS. However I am not able to touch and hear your car so I am going by what you are telling me so this is why you should have a qualified professional look at it. Like I said before usualy this is free so what could it hurt?
Best of luck,
John |

I cant say anything with 100% for sure since I have not actualy looked at and touched your car. But I can tell you then when clutches go out not only will it burn your tranny fluid (turn it brown) but ou will also find clutch matereal in your tranny pan.
The only times I had noticed the slipping problem was on the 1-2 shift. |
